Why Five?
101 Reasons Why Five is Fabulous!
Confucius say…
“To practice five things under all circumstances constitutes perfect virtue; these five are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness, and kindness.”
Google the number 5 and you’ll discover it’s a prime number, a rational number, a circular number, a magic number, and according to the ancient philosophers – it’s even a universal number.
Personally I think it’s an AWESOME number, mainly because it’s the day I was born and coincidentally it happens to be my lucky number (if you’re into all that stuff, which okay I admit I am when it suits me).
But the fabulous 5 is a pretty signif
icant number for all of us as we stumble our way through this tricky thing called life.
Think about it…
We feel good or have a win, and we quickly scout around for someone to high five in celebration.
We need a break – it’s time to take five (or ten or twenty, make yourself a herbal tea, have a nana nap, aw heck why not just take the day off).
Apparently there are five love languages – who knew? Does that make you multilingual?
In our on-demand world when your significant other, kids, boss, friends are all clamouring for your time, attention, company, opinion, energy, and some – how do respond? Hold your fire, I’ll be there in five.
We’ve got five senses. Five basic tastes (well it’s debatable whether some people have got any) – but I was actually referring to sweet, salty, bitter, sour and savoury.
You have a new baby. First thing you do is check for those five little fingers and five tiny toes as a sign that all’s well.
We’re perpetually in a hurry and frantically look for a five second fix for that one-hour (even lifelong) problem.
We Some of us make five year plans. Good luck with that btw. Like any of us know what’s likely to be on the agenda that far ahead. You think the brains trusts who’ve been running our global economies planned for the current fiasco five years ago? Hmmm is that a rhetorical question?
And I’ve lost count of how many five-minute meals I’ve tried that have actually taken twenty and still look like slop on a plate.
Enough already. You get the idea. Let’s just say we do a LOT of things in FIVES.
And if you stick around, you’ll discover a whole bunch of fives to make you fitter, faster, funnier, funkier, cuter, cleverer or just feel good about life in general. Call it life to the power of FIVE. Well that’s my theory anyway.
Join me weekdays* for a bunch of fives and together, let’s make great happen.
(*Sorry but it’s a 5-day week here folks. Weekends are for exciting things like grocery shopping and laundry. I could try to make it sound more exotic, but who am I kidding?)
